Biography
Dr. Mohamed Shafiu is the Chief Surgical Officer (CSO) and a Senior Cardiac, Thoracic & Vascular Surgeon at ADK Hospital. He is the first Maldivian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon and has over 15 years of experience in the Maldivian healthcare system. Dr. Shafiu has played a pioneering role in establishing and advancing cardiac surgery services in the Maldives, introducing complex cardiovascular procedures and expanding access to specialised cardiothoracic care.
He is highly experienced in the surgical management of coronary artery disease, heart valve disorders, congenital heart diseases, thoracic conditions, and peripheral vascular diseases. His expertise includes beating-heart (off-pump) coronary artery bypass surgery, valve repair and replacement, congenital and paediatric cardiac surgery, aortic surgery, minimally invasive thoracic surgery, and vascular procedures. Dr. Shafiu is committed to delivering world-class surgical care while continually advancing cardiovascular and thoracic services in the Maldives.
