Celebrating Nurses Day Events 2024
Nurses day events every year is held to honor the dedication and hard work of nurses around the world.
We, at ADK hospital, began the celebration of nurses’ week with a healthy home-made breakfast on 6th May 2024. Invitees from all the departments of the hospital took part in this event. The essence of the event was to uplift the spirit of inclusivity, appreciate nurses and their contributions while fostering a sense of community and well being within the nursing profession.
On 7th May, the hospital hosted a movie night for the nursing staff at the hospitals training clinic with the objective of providing a fun filled relaxing environment for the team while promoting team interaction and building good interpersonal relationship among colleagues and thereby strengthening team bond.
As observing nurses at work can inspire interest in nursing, on 8th May 2024, Department of Nursing invited a total of 30 students from Ahmadhiyya International School, Villa International High School and Center for Higher Secondary Education took part in “observing nurses at work”. Upon arrival to Shaf’ia Institute of Health, all the students were given an orientation on patient confidentiality, general etiquettes in ward areas and other relevant information to guide them. Witnessing the nurses’ compassion and dedication to patient care can spark a desire to make a similar different in peoples lives. Additionally, seeing the diverse skills of nurses utilize, from critical thinking to communication, can showcase the dynamic nature of this profession. Moreover, observing the positive impact nurses have on their patient’s health outcomes can instill a sense of purpose and fulfillment in wanting to pursue nursing as a career. The activities main objective was to witness the profound influence nurses have on individuals and communities and cultivate a genuine interest in joining this profession.
In addition to this, on 9th May, Nursing Department facilitated an educational seminar on the International Council of Nurses Theme 2024, “Our Nurses. Our Future. The Economic Power of Care” at Inspiration Hall of Shaf’ia Institute of Health. With the objective of highlighting the economic value of nursing, multiple topic related presentations discussing empowerment of nurses, healthcare disparities, advocating for policy change, fostering of innovation in nursing practice, encouraging collaboration across sectors and most importantly inspiring future generations was discussed in this seminar. Presenters included 2 participants from Treetop Hospital, 1 from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital with 3 presenters from ADK Hospital. By addressing these objectives, this full day seminar intended to contribute in raising awareness about the economic significance of nursing care and catalyzing action to support and invest in the nursing workforce for a healthier more prosperous future.
As every year, celebrating nurses and their success is an event rejoiced both equally by the nursing team and the management of the hospital. With invitees from all over the health sector in Male’, the event took place at the 6th floor of the Umar Zahir Building on 10th May. As an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the hard work, dedication and compassionate care nurses provide every day, this event intended to acknowledge their efforts and boost morale and motivation. The event also included talent shows by our nurses offering them with an opportunity to unwind, relax and enjoy themselves, promoting mental and emotional well being of our staff. Certificates to 33 staff in recognition of their 100% attendance and 5 staff for their outstanding attendance and punctuality was awarded. Moreover, most active breast-feeding counselor, most active diabetic educator, champion of cannulation and the most active tobacco cessation counselor was also awarded with certificates appreciating their hard work. This year, in recognition of exemplary nursing and leading without a title, a new category of award “Inspirational Nurse Leadership Award” was introduced with the goal of embodying leadership qualities and professionalism among the nurses. This award for won by PNM Fathimath Aasthana for her outstanding leadership and work on facilitating antenatal and postnatal classes for our patients.
Scavenger hunt, organized by Nursing Department was an engaging and hands-on activity filled with fun filled memorable learning activity on Medication Policy of the Hospital that took place on 11th May. With the aim of enhancing problem learning skills, team work and critical thinking, in this activity, 15 participants from different nursing units was divided into groups of 3 forming 5 groups deciphering clues and completing tasks to make progress from one step to the next. This offered the participants with a multiple sensory experience reinforcing learning through different channels.
12th May began with cake cutting and distribution of cupcakes to all the nurses as a symbol of celebration and recognition of hard work and dedication of nurses, honoring their contributions to healthcare. The ceremony also created a festive atmosphere that brought nurses from various units together to celebrate their profession. The activity aimed to foster a sense of unity, camaraderie among colleagues’, reinforcing their bonds. Adding variety to these celebration for lucky draw of discounted dinner coupons gifted by Maagiri Hotel for 100 nurses making these celebrations more dynamic and enjoyable.
A sports day was a fantastic way to end a week-long celebration honoring our nurses while promoting physical activity, teamwork and friendship. Nurses often work long hours in demanding environment which can take a toll on their physical and mental health and wellbeing. Sports day celebrated on 17th May was to encourage them to engage in physical activities, promoting overall health and wellbeing. This activity also provided as a healthy outlet for stress relief and relaxation, helping nurses feel more energized and mentally refreshed.
